Contadora today is an island paradise to all of those fortunate enough to visit. The amazing turquoise water is a year round, real life fantasy. IDAAN, the Panamanian “Water Institution”, have begun taking bids for an updated water and sewage treatment plant. The plan also calls for the construction of a desalination plant, which would be the second one built by IDAAN. Contadora has received an influx of visitors over the recent years due to the ferry and airline companies daily trips to the island, making it more accessible.
The past administration completed a new asphalt road system throughout the entire island. ARPUIC, the association for island residents, has a number of community projects planned and in the works. The Welcome & Dive Center, as well as the hotels and restaurants provide the basic services and many activities for visitors to enjoy in addition to the 13 white sand beaches! With the amount of tourism generated from the daily visitors and whale season, Contadora should soon be changed into a tourist zone allowing for benefits for local businesses and residents.
Contadora offers amenities such as 3 local grocery stores, 1 medical clinic, 3 hotels, numerous bed and breakfasts, several bars, restaurants and an AeroNaval station for security.
